A New Step Forward in Wide Format Printing at Lawton

Lawton’s new EFI Pro 30h+ expands our ability to produce rigid boards, flexible graphics, white ink, multilayer prints, and clear spot effects through one hybrid wide format platform.

The investment is not simply about adding a larger machine. It gives our production team more flexibility to keep complex work moving, reduce unnecessary handoffs, and support demanding Dallas Fort Worth projects with greater control.

A Major Move

Bringing the new EFI into production

Moving a production printer of this scale takes planning, coordination, and a clear installation path. The work continued after the machine reached the floor, with setup, calibration, operator training, testing, and live production all part of making the investment useful.

That transition matters because new equipment only improves a workflow when the team understands how to use it consistently. Jennifer and Mark trained on the system so its rigid, roll-fed, white ink, and specialty capabilities could become part of Lawton’s everyday production process.

  • One platform for rigid boards, flexible sheets, and roll material
  • Continuous board and dual roll features for higher-throughput work
  • White and clear ink options for layered graphics and selective effects
  • LED curing designed for immediate handling and a wider media range
What Changes for Customers

More flexibility inside one production workflow

The practical value is the ability to match the material, print method, finishing plan, and schedule to the actual job without forcing every project through the same path.

Rigid board production

Direct printing on boards supports signs, presentation graphics, retail displays, exhibits, event panels, maps, and other mounted pieces. Continuous board production also helps keep multi-board jobs moving.

Roll-fed graphics

The same platform can produce flexible graphics for walls, windows, banners, and branded environments. Faster changeovers simplify scheduling when a project includes both boards and rolls.

White and clear effects

Four white channels support opacity, layered images, and printing on clear or colored media. Optional clear ink can be used across a full image or on selected areas to create a controlled spot effect.

The takeaway

A broader range of work can stay within one coordinated production environment, which helps reduce handoffs, version confusion, and avoidable schedule pressure.

Verified Capabilities

What the EFI Pro 30h+ is built to handle

The EFI Pro 30h+ is a hybrid LED printer, meaning it can produce flat rigid pieces and roll-fed flexible graphics within one footprint. These specifications describe the machine’s maximum capabilities, while the right production mode will still depend on the material, artwork, coverage, and quality requirements of each job.

Specifications sourced from the official EFI Pro 30h+ product page.

Lawton Team Perspectives

Building the capability into the way we work

The machine is one part of the investment. The other is the production experience, training, and day-to-day judgment needed to use it well.

“Printing keeps changing, and we have to keep investing in the technology that helps our customers move their projects forward. The EFI gives us more capacity and more ways to solve a job while keeping the work under one roof and under our control.”
Greg HowardOwner and Co-Founder
“The biggest improvement is flexibility. We can move between rigid boards and roll material, run larger projects more efficiently, and choose a production path that fits the job instead of making the job fit the equipment.”
RandyGeneral Manager
“Training on the EFI showed us how much control we now have over white ink, layers, and specialty effects. There is a lot to learn, but that knowledge gives us more options when a customer needs something beyond a standard print.”
JenniferProduction Team
“Once we started running real work, you could see where the machine fits. It handles a wide range of materials, the workflow is efficient, and we can make adjustments at the machine that help us keep quality consistent from the first piece through the rest of the run.”

Project Spotlight

Fusion India wall mural with a clear spot effect

One of the first projects to demonstrate the EFI’s expanded capabilities was a restaurant wall mural produced for Fusion India. The graphic combined a large visual field with selected clear areas that created a spot varnish effect and gave key parts of the artwork additional depth.

The finished project shows why specialty capability has to connect back to production planning. File preparation, effect placement, printing, finishing, and installation all had to work together for the detail to read correctly on the wall.

Behind the Print

Equipment matters most when the full process stays connected

For customers, the useful outcome is not a machine specification. It is a finished piece that has been planned, proofed, produced, finished, packed, delivered, and installed correctly.

Plan the application

Confirm the viewing distance, environment, dimensions, material, duration, and installation conditions before production begins.

Prepare and proof

Check dimensions, image quality, color expectations, layers, white ink, clear effects, and finishing marks before releasing the file.

Print and finish

Select the right production mode, then trim, mount, laminate, route, pack, or label each piece for the next stage.

Deliver or install

Coordinate sequence, destination, site access, and installation so finished graphics arrive ready for their actual use.

Practical Planning

What helps wide format projects run smoothly

Most problems begin before the printer starts. Early decisions about size, media, finishing, and installation prevent rushed changes later.

Share the final use

Tell production where the piece will go, how long it should last, and whether it will be viewed up close or at a distance. That information affects material and print choices.

Identify specialty effects early

White ink, clear spot effects, and multilayer graphics require deliberate file setup and proofing. They should be part of the plan, not an addition at the end.

Coordinate finishing and install

A print can be correct and still create problems if trimming, packing, labeling, delivery, or site access are overlooked. Plan the entire path to completion.

Common Questions

EFI Pro 30h+ and wide format printing FAQs

Short answers to the questions customers commonly ask about the new production capability.

What is a hybrid wide format printer?

A hybrid printer can print both rigid pieces and flexible roll material on one production platform. For Lawton, that means boards, sheets, and rolls can be coordinated within a more flexible workflow.

How wide can the EFI Pro 30h+ print?

EFI lists a maximum print width of 126 inches. The practical finished size still depends on the substrate, artwork, finishing method, handling, and installation plan.

Can the EFI print directly on rigid boards?

Yes. It can print directly on compatible rigid substrates up to 2 inches thick. Lawton uses direct-to-board production for suitable signs, displays, presentation boards, event graphics, maps, and branded panels.

What does white ink add to a print?

White ink can add opacity on clear or colored materials, sit behind color, or support multilayer graphics. The file must be prepared specifically for where the white ink should print.

What is a clear spot effect?

A clear spot effect places clear ink over selected parts of an image to change sheen, depth, or emphasis. The Fusion India mural is a real example of using that effect as part of a finished wall graphic.

Does a faster printer guarantee a faster turnaround?

No. Maximum production speed is only one part of a schedule. File readiness, proof approval, ink coverage, material availability, finishing, packing, delivery, and installation all affect turnaround.

Can one project include boards and roll graphics?

Yes. Many event, retail, corporate, sports, and construction projects include a mix of rigid signs and flexible graphics. Sharing the full list early helps production coordinate materials, color, finishing, and delivery.
